Thank you to my father-in-law for a perfectly timed invitation to go fishing in Canada. It was great to get away for a few days and enjoy absolute solitude from the normal pace of the city. Georgian Bay is stunning, and despite not catching many fish, I had a great time with the Vilardos.
While I was away, the crews started framing the third floor. It was great to come home and see our vision taking shape.
The pile of lumber on the second floor indicates framing starts on Monday
It all started four years ago with a front door….we wanted (and then needed!) a new one. But if we get a new front door, we should get new front windows as well…and the rear windows need to be replaced …and we’ve always intended to remodel the third floor…and the boiler’s dead, we might as well get that ripped out of there... Like pulling a thread in a sweater, our desire for a new front door has turned into just about a whole house renovation.
The Cast of Characters:
Marisa - Real women parallel park. This cul-de-sac kid quickly shed the hum drum of the suburbs for city chic. Onboard for some major renovation without the wrecking ball hitting the bank account. AKA-the Financier.
Steve - All things city. Grew up a country kid, but found "where it's at" was in the city. The glue behind the project, keeping everyone sane while blending 1900 historic with 21st century green. AKA-the Dreamer
Ferris - the dog. Mutt. As long as there is food in the bowl and walks in the park, up for anything. Will miss eating the lead paint.
Shenzi - cat 1. Cannot be bothered by this disruption in her lifestyle. Although prissy, can handle some dust and dirt.
Sambuca - cat 2. Doesn't deal well with change. Big, black, and bold, but a baby when it comes to destruction and dust.
